Here's the Planetary Energy to Expect In The Year 2024

The astrological forecast for 2024 is chock-full of major transits, retrogrades, and planetary shifts. As a collective, we are going to experience transformation, and a lot of these transformations may be reflected in climate action and sustainability. If living more sustainably is a New Year's resolution for you, the zodiac can help keep you on track. So get your favorite Astro app out, refresh yourself on your chart (houses matter!), and let's get down to business.

This Astro-forecast covers some of the basics and the major transits, but we recommend getting more detailed info from some of our favorite experts:

Major Retrogrades

When things get wonky, we all want to know… “Which planet is in retrograde?” This year, prepare for every major retrograde

Check out the retrograde forecast below and don’t let these backward-moving planets throw you off your game:

  • Mercury Retrograde in Aries, Virgo-Leo, and Sagittarius:

    • Be prepared to feel frustrated and stunted in communication and leadership, so take things slow and steady! Because Mercury is retrograding in fire signs, keep an eye on your fire sign placements and the aspects of your life they inform

  • Mars Retrograde in Leo and Cancer to end the year:

    • Mars retrograde will mark a period of reflection and calm in the storm of an intense 2024. Mars, the planet that rules anger, aggression, and passion will turn down during this time, offering us space to process the unruly prior months and approach 2025 with peace.

Major Transits and Planetary Movements

Get ready for some wild movements by planets this year. Many of our planets are moving into influential air signs that won’t settle for easy answers.

Pluto moves into Aquarius (Jan 19-Sept 1st)

Beginning our year with this transit makes us wonder if something will be uprooted or turned on its head during this period.

  • This transit will largely center around the web, technology, data science, and power. As a global entity, we have been discussing power and how it relates to technology, especially throughout the violence being enacted right now by Israel towards Palestine.

  • Pluto, for the last generation or so, has been in Capricorn, and through that transit, we recognized how our systems of conservatism and power-obsession were no longer serving us. Aquarius, the sign of truth and authenticity, will force us to mobilize towards justice. Pluto will remain in Aquarius until 2044, and Chani believes that upon its movement into Pisces, our society will be immensely changed.

Jupiter Joins Uranus in Taurus (April 20th)

Jupiter is the planet of justice and wisdom and tends to be a very temperate sign. Think of Jupiter as a guiding point, a beacon of direction, against Uranus, the planet we associate with disruption, breakthrough, and innovation.

  • According to the Down to Astro podcast, these two planets can function powerfully jointly, and perhaps result in a resolution. In your zodiac, it might mean that you are revolutionizing your long-held opinions or breaking down the barriers built up by societal injustice.

  • From a global perspective, Jupiter, the great teacher, and Uranus the planet of revolution, combined with Taurus, the sign ruling bodily, earthly things, may mean that something abundant, productive, and loud will happen in these arenas. As sustainable baddies, we may be thinking of something explosive and dramatic in the climate world, and ideally that something turns into a movement.

Jupiter Enters Gemini (May 25th)

Jupiter is in its detriment (downfall) in Gemini. Gemini, a sign that symbolizes duality and multitudes, will force our systems of operation (ruled by Jupiter)—higher education, wisdom, philosophy, and law—to consider new perspectives.

  • There will no longer be a right answer. This might mean that we will do away with past patterns of belief. We might accept ideas or facts that we would have previously rejected.

  • From the global perspective, this could provide a new path toward mobilizing a movement to re-think systems of power through a wholly opposite lens.

In general, this year is vast. Many of these transits force us to think about our systems and how we can recreate them. I think we can anticipate revolution, recreation, mobilization, and organizing. This will be a year of putting our imagined solutions into action; our world, our communities, and our astrology are demanding it.
