10 Sustainable Sexual Wellness Products for The Conscious Baddie

So, it’s Venus retrograde season, baddies. Maybe your love life is in chaos, or maybe you’re in a dry spell. But your vibrator is always there for you, through good seasons and bad. Your sexual wellness should always be top of mind, but it can be difficult to find sustainable alternatives in the sexual health and wellness industry.

When it comes to sex products, health, and safety, brands may find it hard to prioritize sustainability. However, there are many brands that are exploring how to marry these goals, and create products that are good quality, safe, healthy, and eco-friendly!

We created a list of products and brands that are exploring sexy sustainability. Now you can bring sustainability into your solo sex or partnered sex. Being a sustainable baddie means having susty sex too!

***Remember, you don’t need to go out and buy a new vibrator or toy if you already have ones that you love! Using what you have is always the most sustainable option, but if you’re in the market for one, then we hope that this list can help you identify your new favorite vibrator!

Vibrators & Sex Toys

Womanizer Premium Eco Vibrator:

The Bavarian company, Womanizer, recreated their popular premium vibrator with a new eco-twist. The vibrator uses air technology to provide stimulation to the clitoris without direct contact. It has different intensity levels for whatever you are in the mood for, and it comes with multiple head sizes for different bodies. The vibrator went sustainable when the company decided to switch to naturally sourced and biodegradable biolene material. In addition, the company made the vibrator easy to take apart for recycling purposes at the end of its life, and the rechargeable capabilities are meant to give this toy an extra long lifetime. You can learn more about the sustainability of this product on the Womanizer website.

Ohhcean Vibrators:

Although this product is not yet available in the US, this ocean plastic-made vibrator is a wonderfully sustainable option for our European sustainable baddies. Ohhcean makes vibrating Wands, G-spot vibrators, and body vibrators, all with recycled plastics found in the ocean. These plastics are collected by #tide and turned into plastic granulate to eventually be made into the Ohhcean vibrators! Although the product is not yet globally available, you can request for it to make its way to your country on their website

Gaia Biodegradable Vibrator:

If you are looking for a vibrator option that is simple and won’t break the bank, we love the Gaia biodegradable vibrator. This sustainable vibrator can be composted and recycled. It was one of the first eco-friendly toys on the market, making it a very classic choice. Available in two different sizes, standard and bullet, the Gaia vibrator is battery-operated and easy to use. It might not have a ton of flashy features, but the Gaia is a reliable and affordable eco-friendly choice.

Go for glass!

When it comes to toys like dildos and butt plugs, you can always choose glass over plastic alternatives. Glass sex toys are easy to recycle and they can also be kept clean and sanitized to keep your body clean and protected.

Contraceptives

Contraceptives can be another tricky area for finding sustainable alternatives. For birth control, long-term options such as the IUD (especially the copper IUD) are your most sustainable options. However, we know that sex is a lot more than just pregnancy, and it’s important to be practicing safe sex at all times. So, if you are struggling to find a sustainable option in the heat of the moment, that's ok! But next time you are restocking your condoms, consider these brands that are prioritizing sustainable materials and design:

Sustain Condoms:

This women-owned brand prioritizes fair trade and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified latex for their condoms. Their condoms come in a variety of sizes and styles to fit many different bodies. Sustain is also working hard to promote positive change by donating 1% of their proceeds to women’s health organizations that are distributing safe sex products and providing education on sexual health.

Hanx Condoms:

Hanx, a UK-based sustainable sexual wellness brand, makes vegan and biodegradable condoms. Their 100% Fair Rubber Latex condoms will biodegrade in your trash and even in your compost, and they are made without any animal products.

Body Care

Sliquid Lubricant:

This lubricant is water-based, naturally made, vegan, cruelty-free, and comes in recyclable packaging. It uses plant cellulose to thicken the product and to draw out the body's natural lubricant. This product is a great sustainable option, especially for those with sensitive skin.

DIY Lube:

If you’re feeling crafty, making your own DIY lube is a great way to practice sustainable sexual wellness. Using natural ingredients and storing your lube in your own reusable containers is a great way to keep your sex life susty. You can make your own lube with household ingredients like aloe and coconut oil. Read more about these two options on the Going Zero-Waste Blog

Maude Massage Candle:

A fun way to spice up your sex life is to incorporate other methods of body care. This Maude Massage Candle is a great way to incorporate romance either with yourself or your partner or partners. Once the candle has melted and burned out, you can pour it onto skin and use it as a soothing massage oil. The candle comes in a beautiful glass jar that can be reused, like for storing your own DIY Lube!

Lush Massage Bar:

This massage bar from Lush is great to be used alone or with a partner! Lush has many great bars, but this Hottie formula is especially spicy, soothing, and made with bumps to offer a great texture for incorporating with a hand massage. I personally love the Sleep massage bar, which is lavender scented and is great for soothing and calming before bed.

Fat and The Moon Kooch Quench:

Fat and The Moon is a company that prioritizes zero-waste products made with natural and vegan materials. Their Kooch Quench salve is great for dryness in your vag! The soothing sea buckthorn oil is calming and hydrating to leave you feeling extra taken care of. This product is super hydrating, but cannot replace lubricant made especially for condoms or dental dams.

We hope that this resource list shows you that sustainability doesn’t have to take a back seat in your sex life. Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming article on susty period health for all the menstruators out there!
